Somewhere between adaptation and shooting, the magic leaped out of this film. The synopsis looked promising and it could have delivered, but it seems that poor casting choices and spotty dialog made it fall short. The leading man isn't quite convincing on film. His technique feels more fit for stage, but when on screen you see an actor and not a character. Famke Janssen and Ian Holm are the two bright spots in the nigh hour-and-a-half feature. Holm was the one actor who garnered a laugh. But they both seem out of place, heavy hitters in a smaller film. It could be that a bigger star was set to play Chris, but dropped out, leaving the film with less studio support while Famke and Ian stayed on. This film has gone on to win some festival awards, which makes me wonder if I missed something, or was simply not in the right mood for the film. Nevertheless, it could have been much, much better.

Wow!!! what an experience to see this amazing film by with just me and my girlfriend in the theater. I loved this film from start to finish, let me say that Nathan Baesel is amazing and I will now follow him for the rest of his career. I just am so pleased how this film gets "it" when it comes to horror film dynamics. This film plays with the horror film conventions while being incredibly ironic by featuring one of the worst offenders of tasteless horror (Robert Englund) all the while blowing my mind and raising the bar for every horror film to come after this. This motion picture is funny, smart, witty, and even scary (not as scary as it could've been)but I don't think it supposed to be a fright-fest. Anyway 10/10 a true gift for horror fans, and I mean real horror fans. If you like SAW, or Turistas, or Grindhouse (I already know it will suck), or any of that other crap then you should screw yourself and you don't deserve to see this film. To all the real horror films out there, this one is for you!

i thought the movie was really good and very well done. the jokes were funny and fresh and zach braff is great in comedic situations. amanda peet did really well too with her character's stay at home issues and the whole cast really made this movie awesome. for those of you who are worried that it would be offensive to handicapped people- don't worry. there aren't any rude remarks and if anything it shows that people in wheelchairs have a lot more to them than the disability. jason batemen's character is a villain for obvious reasons which have nothing to do with disabled people. it's easy to hate him for who he is and zach braff's character deals with the same split emotions that many people have about this film. i recommend it entirely and i don't think you will be disappointed!

Every minute of this movie was horrendous. The acting was a joke and the whole script was COMPLETELY predictable! My friend and I were 2 of about 10 people in the whole theater and a third of the way through, I stopped being shy and would let out an "Oh give me a break!" every 30-60 seconds. The whole story line was jumbled and I could've told you the ending after watching the first 10 minutes. How many movies like this are out there? Nosy parents, unlucky in love children, one "good" guy who isn't that good and of course, the musician with the kid who turns out to be the love of her life. At least the other movies are a little more entertaining. The WORST part was when Mandy Moore started singing! I wished I had a dinner fork so I could have jabbed it in my eye. Yes, it's that bad. I'm disappointed in Diane Keaton and Tom Everett Scott - and I don't even want to talk about Mandy Moore. Please, save your money, time and sanity - DO NOT watch this movie!

Lasse Hallstrom has directed a compelling recreation of Clifford Irivng's novel in "Hoax". It is a retelling of the risky writing of the fake autobiography of Howard Hughes, the eccentric billionaire from Texas. Richard Gere gives a satisfying performance in his torn character of Clifford Irving himself. He is also convincing in his ability to show his simultaneous success and guiltless feelings in writing his so-called autobiography. Alfred Molina gives an emotional performance as Dick Suskind, Irving's loyal friend and co-writer. Marcia Gay Harden is a genuine Edith Irving in this disturbing story. And Julie Delpy is exquisite as Nina Van Pallandt, the paramour that Irving drags into his ploy. It makes for a nice cinema, and likely a good read.
